KHULNA, May 23, 2023 (BSS) - The Election Commission (EC) Appeal Board today restored the candidacy of one of the mayor aspirants for Khulna City Corporation (KCC) accepting his plea, but turned down identical petitions by three others.

Officials said the EC appeal board headed by Khulna's divisional commissioner declared Zaker Party nominated mayoral candidate Md Sabbir Hossain's candidacy valid.

The board upheld the returning officer's decision to cancel the nomination papers of three others SM Shafiqur Rahman, Md Abdullah Chowdhury and Kamrul Islam, all independent candidates.

The board, they said, simultaneously restored candidacy of two ward councillors Md Yousuf Ali Khan and Md Zakir Hossain.

AL-backed candidate Talukder Abdul Khaleque, Jatiya Party's Shafiqul Islam Modhu, Moulana Abdul Auwal of Islami Andolon and Jaker Party's Md Sabbir Hossain are going to contest in the KCC polls.
