Necessary steps taken to protect Fulchhari, Saghata from river erosion: MP Ripon

GAIBANDHA, MAY 11, 2023 (BSS)-Parliament Member (MP) from Gaibandha-5 Mahmud Hasan Ripon at a function here today said the government has taken all possible steps to protect Fulchhari and Saghata upazilas from the erosion by the Jamuna River.

“After electing MP from Gaibandha-5 constituency, massive development steps for overall advancement of the two upazilas have already been taken. Of them, some projects have already being implemented by the concerned departments here and the rest would be implemented in future by phases”, he said.

The newly elected MP said this while addressing an inaugural ceremony of the river bank protection work at Baniapara area under Fulchhari upazila yesterday as chief guest where Chairman of Fulchhari GM Selim Parvez spoke as special guest.

Terming the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as public friendly one, he urged all for reelecting the Awami League to accelerate the development of the country and for building the smart Bangladesh.

He also thanked the government for starting the development work along with protection of the bank of the river from the erosion that made the people of the riverbank worried as they are losing their homesteads and arable lands due to the erosion.  

Later, he formally inaugurated the riverbank protection work from Bhushir vita to Ratanpur Hazirhaat Matha via Gunbhari Baniapara by dumping sand filled geo textile bags as chief guest.

Executive Engineer of Bangladesh Water Development Board Hafizul Haque and other officials were present on the occasion.
