NARAIL, May 8, 2023 (BSS) - World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day-2023 was celebrated today in the district as elsewhere in the country and the globe.
 
This year's theme was 'We do everything sincerely'.
 
This day is an annual celebration of the principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
 
The World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day is celebrated on May 8 each year. The date is the birth anniversary of Henry Dunant (born on 8th May 1828), the founder of International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the recipient of the first Nobel Peace Prize.
 
To commemorate this great man with reverence, his birthday is celebrated all over the world every year as World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day.
 
On the occasion of the day, a colorful rally was brought out from the premises of the Red Crescent office of the district which paraded the important streets and ended at the same place this morning.
 
After the rally, a discussion was held at the premises of the Red Crescent office this morning.
 
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Ashfaqul Haque Chowdhury addressed the function as the chief guest this morning with Advocate Subas Chandra Bose, chairman of Zila Parishad and Red Crescent Society of the district unit in the chair.
 
Civil Surgeon Dr. Sajeda Begum, Municipality Mayor Anjuman Ara, District Education Officer Md. Haider Ali, brave freedom fighter Sharif Humayun Kabir, spoke as the special guests.
 
Red Crescent Society of the district unit Vice-chairman Advocate Roshan Ara Kabir Lilly and its Secretary Kazi Ismail Hossain Liton, among others, were present.
 
On the occasion of the day, free blood group diagnosis and diabetes tests are conducted.
