CHATTOGRAM, April 25, 2023 (BSS) - The 114th wrestling competition titled 'Jobbarer Boli Khela' began at its permanent venue, the Laldighi Maidan, toady.

 
City Mayor M Reazaul Karim Chowdhury attended the function as the chief guest while Commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police Krisno Pada Roy inaugurated the wrestling competition this afternoon.

Organizers said a total 74 Boli or Kustigir (wrestlers) from different parts of the district irrespective of ages are participating in the three-day competition.

The century old historic wrestling competition and new Bengali year's fair is held every year with much enthusiasm and cultural zeal with the participation of thousands of people from different regions of the country.
 
Councilor Zohourlal Hazari, organising committee Chairman, told BSS that the individual initiative of renowned social worker and businessman late Abdul Jabber Saudagar, a resident of the city's Badarpati area, started the wrestling competition during British colonial regime in 1909 aiming at inspiring the young generation against the British movement.
