GAIBANDHA, April 7, 2023 (BSS)- A total of 238 farmers of Bonarpara union 
under Saghata upazila of the district today got quality seed of jute from the 
government during the current season free of cost. 

In this regard, a simple function was held at the Union Parishad (UP) office 
this morning around 10 am. 

UP Chairman Nasirul Alom Swapon distributed the packages of jute seeds, 
received from the Directorate of Jute, to the selected farmers as the chief 
guest.

Each of the farmers got one kilogram of jute seeds free of cost for bringing 
one bigha of land under jute cultivation during the current season. 

Speaking on the occasion, UP Chairman Swapon said the government, led by 
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, is sincerely trying to restore the lost 
heritage of jute sector through providing jute seed to the enthusiastic 
farmers. 

He also urged the farmers to farm the seed with care to get desired output 
against the crop aimed to change the socio-economic condition.

Councilors of the parishad and local elite attended the function, among 
others. 

Jute Development Officer of the Directorate here Mazedul Islam told BSS the 
activity of jute seed distribution is nearing completion.
