JOYPURHAT, March 16, 2023 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced six people to life term imprisonment for killing a man in Sadar upazila of the district in 2007.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Nurul Islam pronounced the verdict this afternoon.

The convicts are – Ahmed Ali, his wife Mina Begum, their three sons Altab Hossain, Montaz Ali, Entaz Ali and Anwar Hossain, son of Abdus Sattar.  They are all resident of Debrail area of Sadar upazila of the district.

The court also fined them Taka 50,000 each, in default, to suffer two years more in jail each.

According to the details of the case, victim Rashid of Debrail village under Sadar upazila was discussing their family matters with the family members. At that time, due to previous enmity on 11 April 2007 the accused gang hit Rashid with spades and iron rods.   As a result Rashid was seriously injured and he was admitted to the hospital. He died while undergoing treatment there.

On April 17, 2007 Mizanur Rahman, the victim's son, filed a murder case with Sadar police station as the plaintiff accusing six persons.

Later, police submitted a charge-sheet against six accused to the court.

 
After examining the record and witnesses, the court found them guilty.

Public Prosecutor (PP) Advocate Nripendranath Mondal confirmed the matter.
