
CHAPAINAWABGANJ, March 10, 2023 (BSS) - The National Disaster Preparedness
Day-2023 was observed in Chapainawabganj as elsewhere across the country
today amid different programmes.
Chapainawabganj District Administration and the Department of Fire Service
and Civil Defence jointly organised various programmes with the theme 'Smart
Bangladesher Protaya, Durjog Prastuti Sabsomoy'.
To mark the day, a procession was taken out from the Deputy Commissioner's
office in the morning. After parading the main roads of the town it ended at
Collectorate Green View School where a discussion was held with the
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Ahmed Mahbub-Ul-Islam in the chair.
Deputy Commissioner of Chapainawabganj AKM Galiv Khan attended it as the
chief guest.
Deputy Director (LG) Debendranath Orao, District Livestock Officer Dr
Mostafizur Rahman, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Rawshan Ali, Deputy
Director of Fire Service and Civil Defence Saber Ali Pramanik spoke in the
function as special guests.
The speakers mentioned that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur
Rahman took up various steps after the Independence to face disasters.
Following his path the present government implemented various sustainable
programmes as part of its disaster preparedness.
As part of disaster preparedness, the government is constructing bridges and
culverts, cyclone shelters, relief and disaster management information
centres and also collecting different equipments to use them in conducting
post-disaster rescue operations, they added.
To give people disaster warning in advance and regular weather messages the
government has introduced 1,090 toll-free Interactive Voice Responsive which
has helped develop the capacity to reduce loss of life and property of the
people from cyclones, floods, lightning and cold wave, they mentioned again.
After the discussion the fire fighters exhibited their fire fighting
exercises.
