TANGAIL, March 1, 2023 (BSS) - Three women were killed and 20 others injured as a pickup van plunged into a roadside ditch in Kalihati Upazila of the district this afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Sahera Khatun, 60, Noor Jahan, 50, and Firoja, 60. Sahera Khatun and Noor Jahan were the residents in Jamalpur district while Firoza was an inhabitant in Dhanbari Upazila in Tangail district.

Officer-in-Charge of Bangabandhu Setu East Thana Shafiqul Islam said the accident occurred at around 1:45 pm in the Analiabari area on Tangail-Bangabandhu Setu Highway as the driver of the pickup van lost his control over steering wheels. Two women died on the spot while another woman lost her breath on the way to a hospital, he added.

The pickup was heading towards Sirajganj.

A case was filed.
