RTI act influential for SDG achievement: Academics

 
RAJSHAHI, Feb 16, 2023 (BSS)- Successful implementation of the Right to Information (RTI) act can be the best way of supplementing the government's efforts of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.
 
Full-length implementation of the RTI act with an unhindered flow of information by all the government and non-government organisations concerned needs to be ensured for expediting development and ensuring good governance everywhere in society.

The observation came at a daylong workshop titled "Right to Information Act, 2009: Formulation of Information Unfolding Guideline" at Rajshahi University (RU) today.

Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) organized the workshop at the conference hall of the Deans Complex.

Vice-chancellor Prof Golam Sabbir Sattar addressed the opening ceremony as the chief guest, while Pro-vice-chancellors Prof Sultan-Ul-Islam and Prof Humayun Kabir spoke as special guests with IQAC Director Prof Dulal Chandra Roy in the chair.
 
Former Commissioner of Information Commission Nepal Chandra Sarker and Executive Director of Management and Resource Development Initiative Hasibur Rahman Mukur addressed the workshop as resource persons. 

IQAC Additional Directors Prof Mosihur Rahman and Prof Abdur Rashid Sarker also spoke on the occasion.
 
Terming the access to information as vital Prof Golam Sabbir Sattar observed that the role of RTI act to achieve the SDGs is very much effective as its basic objective to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all, adding its key commitment is "no one will be left behind".

He said the present government under the prudent and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has adopted diversified steps to attain the goals within the stipulated time.

"Implementation of RTI act has become crucial for the sake of establishing good governance in the society and enhancing transparency and accountability in all tiers of public services," he added.
