‘Martyred Intellectuals Day’ observed in Khulna with new pledges

 
KHULNA, Dec 14, 2022 (BSS) - People of all walks of life here today observed the ‘Martyred Intellectuals Day’ paying rich tributes to the country’s golden sons and daughters who were killed at the fag end of the War of Liberation in 1971 with a pledge to build the country following their ideals.

The country commemorated the brutal killings day before the country achieved the victory on December 16 after a bloody nine-month war against the Pakistani occupation forces.
Leaders and activists of different political and socio-cultural organizations, government, non-government organizations and educational institutions placed wreaths at the Gallamary Martyred Memorial here at early hours of today.

The day’s programme began with paying tributes by Khulna Muktijoddha Sangsad to the Gallamary Martyred Memorial at 12 past one minute.

Awami League, Mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC), BNP, Jatiya Party (Ershad), JSD, Vice-Chancellors of Khulna University (KU), Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), Khulna District Council, Khulna Divisional Commissioner, Khulna Press Club, Khulna Union of Journalists (KUJ), among others, also paid homage to the great sons of the country.

Marking the Day, Khulna district administration organized a discussion at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room with DC Khondokar Yasir Arefin in the chair.

Mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Talukder Abdul Khaleque addressed the meeting as chief guest while Superintendent of Police Md Mahbub Hasan, Freedom Fighters Professor Alamgir Kabir and Sarder Mahububur Rahman, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police Sonali Sen, addressed as special guests. Additional Deputy Commissioner (revenue) delivered the welcome speech.

Khulna City and District units of Awami League (AL) organized a discussion at the party office in the city marking the day where KCC Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque, Administrator of Khulna District Council Sheikh-Harun-ur-Rashid,  among others, addressed.

Khulna District Administration, BNP, Jatiya Party, JSD and CPB, 1971: Genocide, Tortured and Archive Museum, KU, KUET, KCC, Khulna Press Club, Khulna Union of Journalists (KUJ) and other political and socio-cultural organizations organized different discussions marking the day.
