DHAKA, Sept 8, 2026 (BSS) - Online food and grocery delivery platform, "foodpanda" has announced fully funded 24/7 personal accident insurance coverage for all its active delivery riders, describing it as the first such initiative for riders in Bangladesh's food delivery sector.
Under the insurance policy, riders will receive Taka 100,000 in the event of accidental death, permanent total disability, or complete loss of sight in both eyes or multiple limbs, said a press release here today.
The policy also provides Taka 50,000 for certain permanent partial disabilities, including the loss of sight in one eye or the loss of a single hand or foot, subject to the policy terms and conditions.
The coverage protects riders against major injuries from accidents regardless of whether these occur during an order or on personal time, and is eligible to riders who complete at least one delivery in a week.
The initiative follows a partnership agreement signed between foodpanda and Bimafy, Bangladesh's first digital insurance platform, at foodpanda's headquarters in Dhaka.
Co-founder and Managing Director of foodpanda Bangladesh Ambareen Reza, along with Zubair B A Siddiky and officials from both organisations, were present at the signing ceremony.
Head of Logistics at foodpanda Bangladesh Mukitur Rahman Khan, announcing the initiative, said foodpanda has built an ecosystem connecting restaurants, SMEs, customers and riders, creating income opportunities for millions of people in Bangladesh.
"By fully funding personal accident insurance, we hope that our delivery partners can have greater peace of mind, and be assured of 24/7 protection anytime that they are on the road," he said.
The insurance programme is part of pandahearts, foodpanda's rider support programme focusing on five key areas: safety, well-being, personal development, community and welfare benefits.
Beyond personal accident coverage, foodpanda offers riders a suite of benefits through partner organisations, including discounted healthcare packages and mobile data plans, monthly installment plans for e-bikes, and opportunities for upskilling and participation in community activities such as rider sports tournaments.
