RAJSHAHI, Aug 28, 2026 (BSS) - Police arrested two youths from Rajshahi metropolis this evening for allegedly preparing to commit a mugging, recovering two hasuas and mobile phones, including one designed to resemble a police wireless device.

A team of the Detective Branch (DB) of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) conducted the operation around 6:30pm in the Koyerdara Christianpara area under Boalia Police Station.

The arrested youths were identified as S M Hasan Muktadir Cute, 23, and Sifaz Hossain, 25.

Police said a 31-inch hasua with an iron handle, a wireless-like mobile phone and a smartphone were recovered from Cute. A 26-inch hasua with a wooden handle and another mobile phone were recovered from Sifaz.

During preliminary interrogation, the two admitted that they had been staying in the area with the intention of committing a mugging, police said.

Police also found the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police monogram on the phone recovered from Cute. Investigators suspect the wireless-like device had been used in various crimes, including mugging, by impersonating government officials.

A case has been filed against the two at Boalia Police Station under relevant laws for allegedly preparing to commit mugging while impersonating a government employee and using a government institution's monogram and a wireless-like device.

The RMP urged residents of Rajshahi metropolis to remain vigilant and warned against impersonating government officials or using government identities for criminal activities.
