DHAKA, Aug 20, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh received US$2.031 billion in workers' remittances during the first 19 days of August this year, registering a 29.1 percent year-on-year growth from US$1.573 billion received during the corresponding period of 2025.

According to the latest data, expatriate Bangladeshis sent US$64 million in remittances on August 19 alone.

The strong inflow has also pushed the country's cumulative remittance earnings in the current fiscal year to US$4.890 billion during the period from July 1 to August 19, 2026, compared with US$4.051 billion during the same period last year.

The figure represents a year-on-year increase of US$839 million, or 20.7 percent, in the first 50 days of the fiscal year 2026-27.

The sustained growth in remittance inflows is expected to strengthen the country's foreign-exchange reserves and support overall external-sector stability.

The latest trend also reflects continued strong participation of Bangladeshi migrant workers in sending earnings home through formal channels.
