Workshop on Bangla QR held in Rajshahi to promote cashless Bangladesh

DHAKA, Aug 20, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Bank (BB) today organized a workshop on 'Bangla QR' in Rajshahi as part of its initiative to expand an integrated digital payment system across the country and promote a cashless Bangladesh.

The workshop, aimed at increasing the use of Bangla QR among small and medium entrepreneurs, was held at the training centre of Bangladesh Bank's Rajshahi office with support from the International Finance Corporation (IFC). BRAC Bank served as the lead bank.

The participants received hands-on training on using Bangla QR, which enables customers to make simple, secure and interoperable payments through any participating bank or mobile financial application by scanning a single QR code.

The organizers said wider adoption of Bangla QR would help expand digital payment facilities across the country and encourage small entrepreneurs to shift towards cashless transactions.

Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank's Rajshahi office Mohammad Badiuzzaman Didar attended the workshop as the chief guest, while Additional Managing Director and Head of SME Banking of BRAC Bank Syed Abdul Momen was present as special guest.

Director of Bangladesh Bank's Payment Systems Department-1 A.N.M. Moinul Kabir chaired the programme.

Director of Bangladesh Bank's Rajshahi office Md Nazim Uddin, Additional Directors Md Parwez Anzam Munir and Mohammad Moin Uddin, Joint Director Jewel Majumder, and Head of Merchant Acquiring at BRAC Bank Khairuddin Ahmed, among others, attended the workshop.

Senior officials of Bangladesh Bank, representatives of IFC and local businesspeople also participated in the programme.

The speakers described Bangla QR as an important component of a cashless economy, saying it would make transactions easier, safer and more seamless for both customers and merchants.

They also highlighted its potential to reduce dependence on cash, expand access to modern banking services and promote transparent and secure financial transactions.

The speakers urged businesses to adopt Bangla QR technology quickly to facilitate the transition towards a cashless economy.

A press release said BRAC Bank's role as the lead bank in the workshop reflects its commitment to building a cashless economy as part of its ongoing initiatives to expand digital transactions.
