DHAKA, Aug 20, 2026 (BSS)- Bangladesh is participating as a co-organiser in the Mekong-Lancang Fruits Festival 2026 for the second consecutive year, aiming to promote Bangladeshi fruits and agricultural products in the Chinese market.
The festival will begin tomorrow (August 21) at Tongde Kunming Plaza in Kunming, capital of Yunnan Province, bringing together fruit producers, exporters, buyers and business representatives from the Mekong-Lancang region and beyond, said a press release today.
Several Bangladeshi companies are participating in the festival, showcasing fresh and dried fruits alongside a range of agricultural and processed food products.
Their participation is expected to create opportunities for establishing direct business links with Chinese buyers, importers and international traders.
The festival aims to promote agricultural trade among the Mekong-Lancang countries and strengthen cooperation in fruit production, processing and exports. It will feature fruit exhibitions, product sales, business networking and opportunities to explore new markets.
Bangladesh's participation has been strengthened through an agreement between the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) and the Department of Commerce of Yunnan Province.
Under the memorandum of understanding (MoU), Bangladeshi businesses have access to several trade facilitation facilities in designated areas of Yunnan, including rent-free bonded warehouse facilities, offline exhibition spaces, product promotion through online commodity platforms and expedited customs clearance.
Officials and exporters believe the facilities could help accelerate Bangladesh's agricultural exports to China by reducing logistical barriers and improving access to the Chinese market.
Bangladesh first participated in the Mekong-Lancang Fruits Festival last year, showcasing its agricultural and processed food products to international buyers.
The country's participation this year marks a further expansion of the initiative, providing local producers and exporters with opportunities to engage directly with global buyers, importers and potential business partners.
China's huge consumer market offers significant potential for Bangladeshi agricultural products, particularly mangoes, jackfruits, lychees and other fruits and farm products.
Increased access to the Chinese market could also help attract investment in the agricultural sector, diversify Bangladesh's export basket and strengthen the country's position in international supply chains.
Bangladesh's participation in the Mekong-Lancang Fruits Festival is thus being viewed not only as an opportunity to showcase its products, but also as a strategic initiative to establish a long-term presence for Bangladeshi agricultural goods in China, develop new commercial partnerships and create new avenues for export growth, the release said.
