DHAKA, July 20, 2026 (BSS) – Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Md Mostaqur Rahman today distributed prizes among the 10 winners of the "Bangla QR Reels Making Competition" at a ceremony held at the central bank's headquarters in the city.

Speaking as the chief guest, the governor said the use of Bangla QR has been made mandatory for transactions since July 1, 2026, marking a major step towards expanding digital payments across the country, said a press release.

He said the initiative would reduce the risks associated with carrying cash while making financial transactions easier, faster and more secure. 

It would also spare users from the inconvenience of handling counterfeit, torn or damaged currency notes, he added.

"The world is now utilizing digital technologies for all financial transactions. We are starting with Bangla QR, and we are optimistic that the country will adopt even more advanced technologies for transactions in the future," he said.

The governor said Bangladesh Bank has already instructed all banks and Mobile Financial Services (MFS) providers to take necessary measures to ensure the use of Bangla QR by their customers.

The central bank organized the reels-making competition to raise public awareness and encourage wider adoption of Bangla QR in everyday financial transactions.

Deputy Governors of Bangladesh Bank, the head of the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU), executive directors, directors and other senior officials attended the programme, which concluded with a photo session featuring the winners and Bangladesh Bank officials.
