DHAKA, July 12, 2026 (BSS) - The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and
Exporters Association (BGMEA) and the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking
Corporation Limited (HSBC) today signed a strategic partnership agreement to
strengthen the global footprint of Bangladesh's apparel industry through
joint market expansion initiatives.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed at the BGMEA office in the
city, with BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan and HSBC Bangladesh CEO Md
Mahbub ur Rahman signing on behalf of their respective organisations, said a
press release.
Under the agreement, the two sides will jointly organise a major apparel
roadshow in Hong Kong to connect Bangladeshi exporters with international
buyers, brands and global business partners.
The initiative aims to diversify export destinations beyond traditional
markets by expanding Bangladesh's presence in Asia.
The partnership will also leverage the upcoming Bangladesh Textile Expo
(BATEXPO) to promote the country's apparel and textile sector at home and
abroad.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan said
HSBC's extensive global banking network and strong relationships with
international buyers would help attract new sourcing partners who are not
currently importing garments from Bangladesh, thereby widening the country's
export base.
HSBC Bangladesh CEO Md Mahbub ur Rahman described the ready-made garment
(RMG) sector as the backbone of Bangladesh's economy and reaffirmed the
bank's commitment to supporting its long-term growth.
He stressed the importance of research on changing global sourcing patterns
and urged BGMEA to prioritise key areas, including market diversification,
supply chain efficiency and increasing Bangladesh's share in the global
apparel market.
The collaboration will focus on exploring new export markets, strengthening
Bangladesh's position in global supply chains and showcasing the industry's
progress in sustainability and modernisation.
BGMEA Senior Vice President Enamul Haque Khan, Director Shah Rayed Chowdhury
and senior officials from both organisations were present at the signing
ceremony.
