DHAKA, July 7, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh's economy remained on an expansionary path in June 2026, with the Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) standing at 52.9, indicating continued growth in overall business activity despite a slower pace compared to the previous month.
The latest PMI report, jointly released today by the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) and Policy Exchange Bangladesh (PEB), said the index remained above the 50-point threshold, which signals expansion in economic activity.
According to the report, the agriculture sector posted its 10th consecutive month of expansion, while the services sector extended its growth streak to 21 consecutive months, reflecting sustained resilience in key segments of the economy.
The manufacturing and construction sectors experienced a slower pace of activity in June, but the report expressed optimism about future performance.
The future business index projects that agriculture, construction and services will continue to expand in the coming months, while the manufacturing sector is expected to return to expansion.
The monthly PMI is prepared jointly by MCCI and Policy Exchange Bangladesh to provide timely insights into the country's economic performance.
The initiative is supported by the UK Government, with technical assistance from the Singapore Institute of Purchasing and Materials Management (SIPMM).
