DHAKA, June 30, 2026 (BSS) - Commerce Secretary Md Ataur Rahman Khan today
stressed the need for a strong mechanism for product and market
diversification alongside enhanced monitoring of Bangladesh's commercial
missions abroad to ensure sustainable growth in export earnings.
He made the remarks while chairing a review meeting on "Export
Diversification, Expansion, and Review of Export Earnings for FY 2025-26" at
the Ministry of Commerce conference room at the Secretariat in the city, said
a press release.
The meeting was attended by Additional Secretary (FTA) Ayesha Akter, Export
Promotion Bureau (EPB) Vice Chairman Mohammad Hasan Arif and senior officials
of the ministry.
The Commerce Secretary directed officials to adopt a data-driven approach to
evaluating export performance through regular reviews of export targets and
actual achievements over the past five years, month-wise export trends,
sector and product-wise performance, and the activities of Bangladesh's
commercial missions abroad.
He also called for identifying high-potential export sectors, removing trade
barriers, providing necessary incentives to exporters and exploring new
international markets.
He identified halal products as a priority sector for export diversification
and stressed effective implementation of existing trade agreements alongside
efforts to pursue new trade arrangements.
To make overseas commercial missions more result-oriented, Ataur Rahman
instructed officials to regularly review mission reports, identify new
products and potential markets, strengthen business-to-business (B2B)
matchmaking initiatives, and expedite the resolution of trade-related
complaints while assessing opportunities for new trade agreements.
The meeting also discussed measures to address logistics and administrative
challenges affecting exports, including the speedy resolution of trade
complaints and the removal of transport-related bottlenecks.
Officials reviewed Bangladesh's participation in domestic and international
trade fairs over the past three years by assessing export orders generated
through those events.
Progress in Bangladesh's participation in the World Expo was also reviewed,
with the Commerce Secretary directing officials to analyse the relevant
reports and take necessary follow-up actions.
Expressing optimism, the Secretary said the recommendations and decisions
from the meeting would help formulate realistic and ambitious export targets
for the current fiscal year and further strengthen the country's export
sector through effective monitoring and strategic policy interventions.
