DHAKA, May 6, 2026 (BSS) – Policyholders of the Postal Life Insurance (PLI) can now pay their premiums from home through the mobile financial service Nagad, eliminating the need to visit post offices or stand in queues.
The digital payment facility was introduced following a formal agreement signed on Wednesday between Bangladesh Post Office and Nagad at Dak Bhaban in the capital, said a press release.
On behalf of the Post Office, Additional General Managers Md. Abdul Hannan (East Zone, Dhaka) and Pradip Kumar (West Zone, Rangpur) signed the agreement, while Chief Corporate Affairs Officer Md. Samsul Islam signed for Nagad.
Director General of the Directorate of Posts Kazi Asadul Islam and Nagad Administrator Md. Motasem Billah were present at the signing ceremony.
Under the agreement, premiums for all types of PLI policies—including Whole Life Insurance, Endowment Insurance, Fixed Term Insurance, and Education and Marriage Endowment Insurance—can now be paid through Nagad.
Launched in 1884, Postal Life Insurance is the country’s oldest life insurance service, currently serving around 200,000 policyholders.
Previously, customers had to visit designated post offices within specific hours to pay their premiums. With this new system, payments can now be made anytime using the Nagad app.
To make a payment, customers can go to the ‘Bill Pay’ section in the Nagad app, select PLI, and enter their policy details. Upon successful payment, a digital receipt and confirmation message are instantly issued for future reference.
Speaking at the event, Kazi Asadul Islam said the initiative would modernize Postal Life Insurance services and make them more user-friendly, while also accelerating the digital transformation of the Post Office.
Md. Motasem Billah said the move would reduce customer hassle and save time by bringing government services directly to people’s fingertips.
Officials expressed hope that the initiative would enhance transparency and efficiency in insurance services, while also expanding Nagad’s user base by attracting new customers.
Senior officials from the Directorate of Posts and Nagad were also present at the function.
