Stocks rebound on both bourses

DHAKA, April 21, 2026 (BSS) - Stocks today posted a modest rebound after two consecutive corrective sessions, supported by renewed participation as opportunistic investors engaged in broad-based bargain hunting.

DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), declined by 24.9 Points to settle at 5,257 points as against 5,232 points in theprevious trading session.

The broad index opened higher with elevated two-way participation, while sustained buying till the sessions close offset intermittent selling pressure, enabling it to end on a firmer footing.

The improved participation likely reflects cautious optimism around a potential economic recovery, contingent on any resolution of Middle East tensions, which had previously disrupted the nascent recovery trajectory following domestic political stabilization.

Market turnover increased by 12.7% to Taka 9.2 billion from Taka 8.2 billion in the previous session. On the sectoral front, Engineering (16.1%) accounted for the highest share of turnover, followed by Textile (14.9%) and General Insurance (11.6%) sectors.
