DHAKA, April 16, 2026 (BSS) - A delegation from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) today met with Khandaker Abdul Muktadir, the
Minister for Commerce, Textiles and Jute, and Industries, to discuss the current state and future of the country's audit sector.

During the meeting held at the Minister's office at Bangladesh Secretariat in the city, Muktadir highlighted the critical role of the audit sector in
safeguarding national assets, said a press release.

The Minister listened to the concerns raised by the ICAB representatives and assured them that the government remains committed to maintaining high audit
standards and will take the necessary steps to address existing challenges in the sector.

The ICAB delegation argued that the institute has been managing the country's audit activities for a long time based on international standards and a
rigorous legal framework.

They warned that expanding audit rights without these established standards could lead to a loss of public and institutional trust in the financial
sector.

The delegation pointed out that a proposal to grant CMAs auditing rights was included in the Finance Act of 2025 but was ultimately dropped following
strong objections from the ICAB.

However, the institute expressed apprehension that similar proposals might resurface in the 2026 legislation.

They urged the government to remain vigilant and ensure that any legislative changes do not compromise the integrity of the audit profession.

The ICAB delegation was composed of several key leaders, including Suraiya Jannat Khan, Vice President; Md. Rokonuzzaman, Vice President; Mohammad
Mehedi Hassan, Vice President; Md. Moniruzzaman, Vice President; and Shubhashis Bose, Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
