Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

DHAKA, Dec 14, 2025 (BSS) - Country's both bourses, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) today plunged as investors turned cautious and engaged in broad based selling across major scrips amid unfolding political situations.
 
DSEX, the broad index of the DSE, fell by 30.9 points to settle at 4,933 points as against 4,964 points in the previous trading session.
 
After a steady start sellers dominated the trading floor, keeping market sentiment subdued throughout the session.
 
Meanwhile, market turnover shed by 1.4% to Taka 4.5 billion from Taka 4.6 billion in the previous session.
 
On the sectoral front, Pharma (16.3%) issues exerted the highestbturnover, followed by Textile (15.8%) and Food (12.7%) sectors.
 
Almost all the sectors displayed dismal returns, out of which Life Insurance (-2.6%), Telecom (-1.9%) and Financial Institution (-1.6%) exhibited the most negative returns on the bourse today, while Mutual Fund (1.5%), Textile (0.1%) and Servicers (0.1%) exhibited positive returns.
 
 Out of the 397 issues traded, 76 advanced, 246 declined and 75 remained unchanged.
 
The port city bourse, CSE, also settled on a red zone. The Selective Categories' Index (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) declined by 24.5 points and 25.2 points, respectively.
