Banglalink gets approval to launch digital payment services

DHAKA, Dec 10, 2025 (BSS) - Banglalink has received a 'No Objection Certificate' (NOC) from Bangladesh Bank, paving the way for the company to begin operations as a Payment Service Provider (PSP).

According to a press release, this approval marks a major step toward expanding access to digital payments nationwide.

Backed by a high-capacity technology platform and guided by its DO1440 strategy -- which aims to deliver essential digital and financial services around the clock -- Banglalink is preparing to offer key financial services directly to users.

Banglalink, owned by global digital operator VEON, views this approval as a significant move toward advancing digital financial inclusion and building the foundation for a cashless society. Supported by VEON's international fintech expertise, the company says the milestone strengthens its commitment to helping Bangladesh transition toward a more inclusive and digitally empowered future.

With the new authorization, millions of customers are expected to benefit from safer, faster and more convenient financial services integrated into their mobile devices. The approval will also facilitate the rollout of next-generation digital payment solutions across the country.

At launch, the platform will offer instant money transfers, remittance services, utility and government bill payments, e-commerce and merchant transactions, salary disbursement facilities and emerging services such as micro-savings and insurance premium payments.

A key focus of the service is expanding access to formal financial services, especially for unbanked and underserved populations. The platform incorporates a strong security framework to ensure secure, reliable and seamless transactions that build lasting trust among users.

Banglalink CEO Johan Buse said, "With Banglalink's nationwide reach and VEON's global capabilities, we are shaping a secure and inclusive digital payment ecosystem for Bangladesh. This approval reinforces our belief that simple, safe and accessible digital financial services should be available to everyone."

"Guided by our DO1440 strategy, we aim to ensure essential digital and financial services are always within reach. As a people-first company, Banglalink will continue driving meaningful digital innovation that supports daily life, empowers communities and accelerates Bangladesh's journey toward a connected, future-ready digital economy," added Buse.

Banglalink is now completing preparations for the commercial rollout of its digital payment services in coordination with Bangladesh Bank and partner organizations.
