Locally-made 3 landing crafts exported to UAE

CHATTOGRAM, Nov 20, 2025 (BSS) - Three locally built landing crafts — a specialised type of vessel — have been exported to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Western Marine Shipyard (WMS), one of the country’s leading shipbuilding and exporting enterprises, today officially handed over the three landing crafts, valued at $2.2 million, to Marwan Shipping and Trading Company LLC, a UAE-based company.

UAE Ambassador to Bangladesh Abdulla Ali Abdulla Alhmoudi was the present as the chief guest at the handing over ceremony held inside the deck of a ship anchored in the WMS yard area on East bank of Karnaphuli river of Patiya upazila here.
 
Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Abdur Rahim Khan, Managing Director of Marwan Shipping and Trading Company Ahmed Mohammad Hossain Al Marjuki, Chattogram Range DIG of Police Ahsan Habib Palash spoke at the function as special guest. 

Managing Director of WMS captain Sohel Hasan presided over the function, moderated by DGM (Commercial) Shahidul Basher. 

Speaking at the function, UAE ambassador to Bangladesh Abdulla Ali Abdulla Alhmoudi said that a new horizon has been unveiled in the areas of broader business cooperation between two brotherly  countries-UAE and Bangladesh with the construction and export of three ship facilities by a competent Bangladeshi firm -WMS. 

He expressed his hope that the existing cooperation in shipping sector between two private enterprises of UAE and Bangladesh will increase significantly in the future. 

Addressing the function as special guest, Abdur Rahim Khan, additional secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, said that private entrepreneurs in shipping and marine sectors could contribute largely in expanding our export basket as well as enriching the economy of the country.
