DHAKA, Oct 12, 2025 (BSS) - A delegation of the European Union (EU), led by EU Ambassador to Bangladesh Michael Miller, held a meeting with Commerce Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin at his office at Bangladesh Secretariat today.
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on various aspects of trade, investment, and economic cooperation between Bangladesh and the European Union.
Commerce Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin said that the European Union (EU) is one of Bangladesh’s largest trading partners, with vast potential for further expansion of trade.
He noted that Bangladesh intends to move forward towards signing a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and subsequently a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the EU after assessing the feasibility and analyzing trade-related data, said a Commerce Ministry press release.
EU Ambassador Michael Miller said that trade plays a vital role in strengthening relations. Pointing out that the EU has a trade imbalance with Bangladesh, he added that both sides have opportunities for mutual prosperity by addressing existing challenges in trade and investment relations.
The meeting was attended, among others, by Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman; Spanish Ambassador Gabriel Sistiaga; Danish Ambassador Christian Brix Møller and Trade Advisor of the EU Delegation to Bangladesh Abu Syed Belal.
