Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

DHAKA, Sept 22, 2025 (BSS) - Country's both bourses, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) - today plunged due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities.

DSEX, the broad index of the DSE, shed 44.7 points to settle at 5,337 points as against 5,382 points in the previous trading session.

Meanwhile, investor participation remained subdued, with market turnover further falling by 12.3% to a 2.5-month low of TK  5.4 billion from TK 6.2 billion in the previous session. 

On the sectoral front, Pharma (16.1%) issues exerted the highest turnover, followed by Bank (15.4%) and Textile (11.8%) sectors. All the sectors displayed negative returns, out of which Textile (-2.1%), Travel (-1.9%) and Life Insurance (-1.6%) exerted the most corrections on the bourse today, while Services (1.1%) and Telecom (0.3%) exhibited marginal gains. 

Out of the 397 issues traded, 43 advanced, 301 declined and 53 remained unchanged.

The port city bourse, CSE, also settled on red terrain. The Selective Categories' Index (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) declined by 64.8 points and 120.8 points, respectively.
