NBR Chairman visits Pangaon Customs House

DHAKA, July 10, 2025 (BSS) - Md. Abdur Rahman Khan, Secretary of the Internal Resources Division (IRD) and Chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), visited the Pangaon Customs House, Dhaka, today.

During the visit, he inspected the container yard, observed the physical examination of goods, and monitored the automated customs assessment operations in the assessment room. He also interacted with officials and staff to inquire about their day-to-day activities and operational challenges.

Following the inspection, the NBR Chairman held a view-exchange meeting with officers and staff of Pangaon Customs House as well as stakeholders, including representatives of the port authority, importers, and C&F agents, said an NBR press release.
 
In the meeting, he emphasized on boosting revenue collection and improving other official functions such as speedy release of goods through effective risk management, enforcement operations, compliance with import policy orders, automation, reducing litigation, and collecting arrears.

The NBR Chairman instructed the officials to expedite auction procedures to quickly dispose of auctionable and damageable goods currently lying at the port. 
Commending Pangaon Customs for successfully depositing cent percent of revenues into the government treasury via A-Chalan since June 23, 2025, he underscored the pivotal role of customs houses as centers of trade facilitation.

Rahman further directed the officials to prioritize national interests and remain fully dedicated to their duties. He urged them to strengthen Post Clearance Audit (PCA) highlighting its importance as a global practice to audit cleared consignments.

Noting that the Revenue Department is one of the most critical departments of any country while any inefficiency can severely harm the state, the NBR Chairman stressed improving operational efficiency to match global standards. 

He also called upon all officials to adhere to laws and regulations as well as expressed his satisfaction with the overall operations at Pangaon Customs House, and encouraged continuous improvement in service delivery.
