"Exports dropped from Khulna last year due to manifold reasons including closing government jute mills, shrimp factories during the fallen regime," she said.
She referred to the recent visits of Textiles and Jute Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin and hoped that Khulna region will regain its previous glory in export of jute, shrimp and other goods.
The government plans to lease out the closed jute mills to the private sector to pave the way for reopening those, she added.
Md Abdul Baki, Ex-Vice President of Bangladesh Frozen Foods Exporters Association (BFFEA) told BSS that Khulna businessmen think that exports of shrimp, jute, jute goods and other products are being increased as the environment-friendly business atmosphere is prevailing in the country.
He said that there were 63 shrimp processing factories in Khulna. Of them, 33 factories remained closed due to decreasing production and demand in international markets in 2023-’24 fiscal.
Contacted, Sharif Fazlur Rahman, a jute trader and ex-Vice-President of Bangladesh Jute Association (BJA) said the export of raw jute and jute goods are soaring in the global markets creating its bright prospects in Khulna.
Slamming the Awami League government policy, Rahman alleged that the fallen government destroyed the country's jute sector.
