SATKHIRA, June 29, 2025 (BSS) - The operations of Bhomra Land Port here
currently stopped due to a shutdown of the National Board of Revenue (NBR)
and a "March to NBR" programme, effectively suspending import-export
activities between India and Bangladesh.
This closure was part of the shutdown, which began on Saturday, impacting all
customs and tax-related activities at the port and other customs houses
nationwide.
On the second day of the programme, the main gate of the Bhomra Land Port
Customs House was closed since morning. Even there were no customs officials
and employees present at the customs house.
At least more than 550 trucks, which were waiting for import-export
activities at Bhomra Land Port in Satkhira and Gojadanga Land Port in India
for the last two days, left stuck in both the countries.
Even nearly 20,000 individuals who relied on Bhomra Land Port for their
livelihoods became jobless due to the shutdown and subsequently demanded a
swift resolution to the closure.
But no officials and employees of the customs department agreed to speak in
front of the media.
"The activities of the Bhomra land have been totally postponed due to the
movement sparked by the customs officials. The general workers along with the
businessmen are very much affected," said President of Bhomra C&F Agent
Association Abu Hasan.
"A large number of people in Satkhira are living on working in the port and
they are now jobless due to the shutdown of all operations at the port," he
said, adding that the loss of the port will be terrible if the problem would
not be resolved quickly.
Abu Hasan also urged the concerned authority to end the stalemate of the
port.
