RAJSHAHI, June 6, 2025 (BSS) - Instead of the long-lasting and conventional mound system, mango from now on will be sold and purchased on the basis of kilogram.
In the prolonged system commonly known as 'Dhalan', the wholesalers (Aratders) count 42-55 kilograms of mangoes per mound (40 kilograms) while purchasing from the farmers. But, ironically, they paid money of 40 kilograms to the growers making them financially affected.
Local administration had taken steps in different previous times but no desired result was achieved.
To remove the malpractice, divisional administration held a meeting with mango traders, businessmen, farmers and other stakeholders from Chapainawabganj, Naogaon, Natore and host Rajshahi districts with Divisional Commissioner Khandaker Azim Ahmed in the chair at his office conference hall here Thursday.
The meeting unanimously has taken the decision for trading mangoes on the kilogram system instead of dhalan method and the decision will be effective from today (Friday) everywhere in Rajshahi division.
Commissioner Azim Ahmed said all concerned will abide by the decision and they will extend support from their own position for successful implementation of the decision wholeheartedly.
In necessity, legal action will be enforced to implement the decision as there is no more scope of continuing the outdated system.
Commissioner Ahmed also said all the district and upazila level administrative officials and others concerned were given instruction to monitor the system so that the target group of people can derive total benefits of the decision effectively.
