DHAKA, June 3, 2025 (BSS) – Commerce Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin today said the interim government has brought comfort in market management by introducing an inclusive and broad-based market approach from a syndicated market approach of the previous Awami League government.

“Prime Minister of the previous government herself said that the country may witness a famine in March or April 2025 as she had a coordinated data that the economy was on the edge of a ditch. From there, the government’s collective approaches and Contractionary monetary policy and supply-side improvement bring comfort in market system,” he said.

Bashir added: “Through this we have brought diversity in commerce, supply system and market management. We have activated all wings under the commerce ministry like directorate of consumer rights protection, Tariff Commission and others as institutional capacity was completely destroyed during the previous regime,” he said.

The adviser said this while replying to a question at a post-budget press conference at the Osmani Memorial auditorium here.

Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed and other concerned advisers and government officials were present at the press conference.

Bashir said the budget has focused on making the business activities easier.

About the qualitative change in the proposed budget for fiscal year 2025-26, he said earlier several polices in budget were made for giving special advantage to a group but this has not happened in this budget.

He said the government has taken innovative measures for rawhide market diversification, rawhide preservation and storing as 30,000 tonnes of salt has been supplied to madrasahs and orphanages to help preserve the rawhide and skin of sacrificial animals across the country during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.
