DHAKA, May 4, 2025 (BSS) - Canada's Indo-Pacific Trade delegation, led by its chief Paul Thoppil, met Commerce Adviser Sk. Basher Uddin at his office at Bangladesh Secretariat today.
During the meeting, they discussed issues related to boosting of bilateral trade, investment and cooperation.
Putting emphasis on identifying the scopes and areas for boosting trade and investment between Bangladesh and Canada, Bashir said that a win-win situation would be beneficial for both the countries.
Urging Canada to come up with more investment in Bangladesh, the Commerce Adviser said that there is a huge demand for renewable energy in Bangladesh while allocation of land is being made on long-term basis for industrial purpose at Mirsharai Economic Zone in Chattogram.
He opined that the Canadian businesses can become benefitted through investing here and thus also help to benefit Bangladesh, said a Commerce Ministry press release.
Terming Bangladesh as one of its trade partners, Paul Thoppil said that Canada is also an important buyer of Bangladeshi RMG.
In this regard, he underscored the need for making effective joint working group to boost bilateral trade and on air service agreement.
Canada's Indo-Pacific Trade representative also said that his country is interested to invest in building international standard hotels to flourish tourism alongside in Bangladesh's ICT, agriculture, animal husbandry, renewable energy, modernization of airports, and enhancing cargo village facilities.
Canadian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Ajit Singh, Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman, Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary Nasrin Jahan, Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh Chairman Air Vice Marshal Md Monjur Kabir Bhuiyan, among others, were present on the occasion.
