Gambian Foreign Minister meets Commerce Adviser

DHAKA, March 13, 2025 (BSS) - Gambian Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Mamadou Tangara met Commerce Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin at his office at Bangladesh Secretariat today.

During the meeting, they discussed issues related to bilateral interests, improvement of bilateral relations, and also enhancing trade and investment.

Terming Gambia as a friendly nation of Bangladesh, the Commerce Adviser said that the people of Bangladesh have respect and passion towards the people of Gambia for standing beside Bangladesh on the Rohingya issue.

He opined that this bilateral relationship could be strengthened further through an increase in investment, said a Commerce Ministry press release.

Citing that the existing trade volume between Bangladesh and Gambia is small, Bashir said that both countries could further boost their exports.

The Commerce Adviser also urged Gambia to invest in the agriculture and agri-processed sector of Bangladesh.

In response, the Gambian foreign minister said that the people of Gambia feel proud to stand beside the Rohingya community.

Through boosting trade relations, he said that the connectivity between the people of the two countries could be further enhanced.

The Gambian minister expressed his interest in importing frozen fish from Bangladesh and also exporting peanutss to Bangladesh.

Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman, Additional Secretary (Export) M Abdur Rahim Khan, Additional Secretary (WTO) Dr Naznin Kawser Chowdury, Additional Secretary (FTA) Ayesha Akhter, Additional Secretary (DG, Trade Organizations) Mohammad Navid Shafiullah and Non-resident High Commissioner of Gambia to Bangladesh Mustapha Jawara were present, among others.
