DHAKA, Feb 13, 2025 (BSS) - The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is interested to set up an export processing zone (EPZ) in Bangladesh.
The interest was shown when the UAE minister for trade met Bangladesh Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus in Dubai.
About the chief adviser's today's engagements at the World Government Summit (WGS), Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam at a press briefing in Dubai said the chief adviser in principle agreed to allow the UAE to set up an EPZ in Bangladesh.
He said the UAE companies are mega ones and once those come to Bangladesh, huge job opportunities will be created here.
During the meeting, Alam said, Chief Adviser Prof Yunus urged the UAE to relocate its factories to Bangladesh.
He said Prof Yunus today joined a number of meetings with global leaders at WGS.
The press secretary said UAE minister of health Abdul Rahman bin Mohamed Al Owais called on Chief Adviser Prof Yunus on the sidelines of the summit.
The Chief Adviser joined a community engagement programme with Bangladeshi expatriates in Dubai too.
During the programme, he discussed issues related to visa and labour and the problems Bangladeshi expatriates are facing in the UAE.
Besides, Prof Yunus joined an interactive plenary session of the World Governments Summit at its venue.
Chief Adviser's Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder was present at the press briefing.
