Slovakia keen to strengthen trade ties with Bangladesh

DHAKA, Jan 30, 2024 (BSS) - Slovakia, a Central European country, is keen to strengthen bilateral trade ties with Bangladesh.

 
Robert Maxian, Ambassador of the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in New Delhi, emphasized potential collaboration in sectors such as automobile, aviation traffic management, shipping, railway, logistics, light engineering, chemical (Ethanol) sector where both Bangladesh and Slovakia, aim to enhance trade between the two nations.

The topic was discussed during a courtesy meeting between Ambassador Robert Maxian and FBCCI President Mahbubul Alam held today at the FBCCI office in the capital's Gulshan area, said a press release.
 
FBCCI President Mahbubul Alam highlighted Bangladesh's investment-friendly environment and comprehensive development in infrastructure, transportation and connectivity to attract FDI.

He said Bangladesh is now considered as one of the important business hubs in South Asia.

"Several development projects including Deep Sea Port, 100 Special Economic Zones, Hi-tech Park, Tourism Park, Nuclear Power Plant, LNG Terminal are in progress. Besides, the government's business friendly policy support encourages business, trade and investment in the country," he added.

Mahbubul urged Slovakian companies and investors to explore potential sectors in Bangladesh adding that the government is already providing several policy support including tax incentives, one-stop services to attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).

"Besides, the government is determined to protect the private sector by continuing stability in the country. Bilateral trade and investment between two countries can be multiplied through mutual cooperation," added the FBCCI President.

Ambassador of the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in New Delhi Robert Maxian lauded the continuous economic growth of Bangladesh.

He said that the bilateral trade volume between Bangladesh and Slovakia is about 500 million euros. Among these, the export value of goods from Bangladesh to Slovakia is about 490 million Euros, which is mostly occupied by the RMG sector.
 
On the other hand, about 10 million euros worth of rubber is imported from Slovakia to Bangladesh. "Export diversification can bolster trade and investment between the two countries," he opined.

FBCCI senior vice president Md. Amin Helaly, vice presidents Shomi Kaiser, Rashadul Hossain Chowdhury (Ronni), Md. Munir Hossain, FBCCI directors, business leaders were present, among others, at the meeting.
