
DHAKA, Sep 1, 2021 (BSS) - Bangladesh Investment Development
Authority (BIDA) today observed its 5th founding anniversary bearing
the theme "Biniyog Agradhikar; Mujibborshe BIDA'r Ongikar"
Earlier on September 1, 2016, the government formed BIDA through
merging the now defunct Board of Investment (BOI) and the
Privatization Commission to attract both local and foreign investment
and flourish the private sector.
Marking its 5th Founding Anniversary, the BIDA held a discussion
meeting held at its office in the capital's Agargaon area.
Presided over by its Executive Chairman Md Sirazul Islam, Prime
Minister's Principal Secretary Dr Ahmad Kaikaus spoke on the occasion
as the chief guest while Executive Chairman of National Skills
Development Authority (NSDA) Dulal Krishna Saha spoke as special
guest.
The participants paid rich tributes to Father of the Nation
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, all the martyrs of August 15 and
all the martyrs of the War of Liberation.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ahmad Kaikaus said that the economic
excellence of Bangladesh has been acclaimed worldwide over the last 12
years.
He said it should be considered first how much the country and its
people would be benefitted through foreign investment.
The PM's Principal Secretary said that the foreign investors are now
ready to make investment in Bangladesh while there is a need to remove
the existing barriers to attract more investment.
BIDA Executive Chairman Sirazul Islam highlighted the dynamic
leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to attract more investment.
He said it is not the lone duty of BIDA to attract foreign
investment, but also it is the duty of BIDA to attract local
investment, creating improved investment environment and thus ensuring
world class investment facilities.
Stressing the need for providing more digital services, Sirazul said
the consumers would also have the mentality to receive digital
services.
Executive Chairman of NSDA Dulal Krisna Saha said that the country
needs more investment to turn Bangladesh into a higher middle income
country by 2031 for which there is a need to groom skilled manpower.
BIDA Executive member Abhijit Chowdhury, Director General Md Ziaul
Haque, Director Md Ariful Haque, among others, spoke on the occasion.
