Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

 

DHAKA, May 8, 2023 (BSS) - Country's both the bourses, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) - today plunged due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities.

DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went down by 7.72 points or 0.12 percent to 6,261.63. Two other indices also ended sharply lower with the DSE 30 Index, comprising blue chips, plunged 7.56 points to finish at 2,196.37 and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) lost 0.61 point to close at 1,367.53.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, decreased to Taka 7595.170 million, which was Taka 8462.138 million at the previous session of the week.

Out of 368 issues traded, 68 declined, 74 advanced and 226 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

PTL topped the turnover chart, followed by BSC, SEAPEARL, EHL and AGNISYSL.

GENNEXT was the day's top gainer, posting 10 percent gain while SEAPEARL was the worst loser, losing 8.49 per cent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended sharply lower with the CSE All Share Price Index - CASPI -losing 7.54 points to settle at 18,474.88 and the Selective Categories Index - CSCX shedding 5.89 points to close at 11,063.13.

Of the issues traded, 44 declined, 53 advanced and 93 issues remained unchanged on the CSE.

The port city's bourse traded 44.48 lakh shares and mutual fund units with turnover value worth about Taka 10.10 crore.
