
Dhaka, Aug 17, 2021 (BSS) - The High Court Division has directed to submit a report within three months after investigating allegations of corruption against Southeast Bank chairman Alamgir Kabir.
A virtual High Court division bench comprising Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice SM Mojibur Rahman passed the order on a writ petition filed in the public interest.
A rule has also been issued asking why the inaction of those involved in the investigation into corruption allegations against Southeast Bank chairman should not be declared illegal and why legal action should not be directed against him on the basis of a report published in the media on August 1.
Finance Secretary, ACC Chairman, Governor of Bangladesh Bank, Deputy Governor of Financial Intelligence Unit, Chairman of Southeast Bank Alamgir Kabir and Managing Director of the bank have been asked to respond to the rule within four weeks.
Lawyer Manzil Morshed appeared for the writ petition. Deputy Attorney General AKM Aminuddin Manik represented the state. Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan appeared for the ACC.
The next order is scheduled for November 17.
Manzil Morshed, counsel for the petitioner, told BSS, that despite allegations of corruption amounting Tk 2 crores against Alamgir Kabir, authorities did not take any action.
The writ petition was filed on behalf of the human rights organization Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB) by Supreme Court lawyers Mohammad Sarwar Ahad Chowdhury, Advocate Eklash Uddin Bhuiyan and Md Mahbubul Islam.
