Germany to give 7m Euro for social protection of workers

DHAKA, March 30, 2023 (BSS) - Germany will provide 7 million Euros to Bangladesh as grant for ensuring social protection of workers in the textile and leather sectors.

In this regard, a bilateral agreement named "Accident Insurance for Employees in the Textile and Leather Sector (Working title: Social Protection for Workers in the Textile and Leather Sector (SoSi)" involving a grant of 7 million Euros was signed today between the government of Bangladesh and the government of Germany.

Sharifa Khan, Secretary, Economic Relations Division (ERD), Ministry of Finance and Dr. Andreas Kuck, Country Director, GIZ Dhaka office in Bangladesh signed the agreement on behalf of their respective governments, said a press release.

The objective of the project is to improve the conditions for access to social protection for workers in the textile and leather sector. This project was proposed in the "Technical Cooperation Agreement 2021" signed on January 11, 2022 between Bangladesh and Germany. 

Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoLE) is the partner ministry while the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments (DIFE) and the central fund of MoLE is the executing agency of this project.
