JAMALPUR, August 26, 2022 (BSS) - Cultivation of transplanted Aman (T-Aman)
paddy, one of the high value crops, here has been progressing fast as the
farmers planted around 87 percent of land among the total target in this
current Kharip-2 season.
Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) Office said a total of 1,09,700
hectares of land have been brought under the cultivation during the current
Aman season. Among the target, farmers of the district have already
cultivated the paddy on 95,160 hectares of land till today.
The farmers planted high yielding variety (HYV) on 67,500 hectares of land
against the target of 75,000 hectares, high breed variety on 26,250 hectares
against the target of 21,800 hectares and the local variety on 1,410 hectares
against the target of 12,900 hectares of land.
Deputy Director of the DAE Zakia Sultana said farmers are drifting to
cultivate high breed variety paddy as of its short duration life cycle and
more production. After harvesting high breed variety paddy, farmers can
cultivate mustard on the same land, she added.
"Farmers have sufficient seed bed to complete the cultivation," the DD said,
adding that they have prepared T-Aman seed bed on 5,671 hectares of land
which is 188 hectares more than the target.
The DAE has fixed a target of T-Aman cultivation on 31,472 hectares of land
with a production target of 88,554 tonnes in Jamalpur sadar upazila, 15,203
hectares of land with a production target of 42,842 tonnes in Sarishabari,
16,580 hectares of land with a production target of 47,726 tonnes in

in Madarganj and 12,790 hectares of land with a production target of 41,676
tonnes in Bakshiganj upazila of the district.
Zakia Sultana said most of the farmers are cultivating their lands by
irrigation due to lack of sufficient rainfall.
This year, the cultivation target of T-Aman was fixed on 1,09,700 hectares of
land with a production target 3,09,294 tonnes of rice in seven upazilas of
the district, she added.
