RANGPUR, July 30, 2026 (BSS) - Aman rice seedling planting has already been completed on 43 percent of the target land in the Rangpur agricultural region, where farmers are continuing the process in full swing amid frequent rains.

Officials of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) said farmers have already transplanted Aman rice seedlings on 2,67,267 hectares of land, 43 percent of the targeted land area for cultivation of the crop, till date.

Talking to BSS, Additional Director of the DAE for Rangpur region Md Shirajul Islam said that farmers are likely to achieve the set farming target of Aman rice this season as transplantation of seedling continues amidst favorable climatic conditions in the region. 

The DAE has fixed a target of producing 20,05,028 tonnes of clean Aman rice (30,07,542 tonnes in terms of paddy) from 6,21,550 hectares of land for all five districts of Rangpur, Gaibandha, Kurigram, Lalmonirhat and Nilphamari in the region this season.
 
The set target includes production of 16,70,070 tonnes of high yielding varieties of Aman rice from 5,24,520 hectares of land, 3,14,221 tonnes of hybrid varieties rice from 86,020 hectares and 20,737 tonnes of local varieties of Aman rice from 11,010 hectares.
 
Earlier in the last season, farmers produced 20,00,614 tonnes of clean Aman rice and 18,88,538 tonnes of clean Aman rice from 6,16,299 hectares of land in the previous season in the region.
 
Meanwhile, farmers have prepared seedbeds on 34,586 hectares of land, which is 13.77 percent more than the 30,401 hectares of land required for Aman rice cultivation on the target land of 6,21,550 hectares.
  
The present government through the DAE distributed high-quality Aman rice seeds and fertilisers among the small and marginal farmers as incentives to assist them in cultivating the crop across the region.
 
In addition, steps have been taken to prepare the seedbeds for late varieties of Aman rice in highlands and floating seedbeds in low-lying areas so that there was no shortage of seedlings due to floods in August.

“We have directed the field-level agricultural officers to provide all necessary support and latest technology to farmers to ensure successful cultivation of Aman rice in the region during the current season,” Md Shirajul Islam mentioned.

While visiting a vast area in Rangpur, this BSS reporter found farmers were transplanting Aman rice seedlings in full swing and preparing their croplands for the purpose in a festive mood amid favorable climatic conditions.

Talking to BSS, farmers of different villages in Sadar, Gangachara, Taraganj, Mithapukur and Pirgachha upazilas of Rangpur said that transplantation of Aman rice seedling has now got momentum following frequent seasonal rainfall in recent weeks.

"We are expecting to achieve the fixed farming target of Aman rice this season," said farmer Mofizar Rahman of village Dolapara under Taraganj upazila of Rangpur.
 
Farmers Borhan Uddin, Mahbubar Rahman, Solaiman Ali, Karim Uddin and Golam Hafiz of different villages of Rangpur said that they already completed transplantation of Aman seedlings on their lands.

"The tender Aman rice plants are growing superbly in crop fields following frequent rainfalls," said farmer Anwar Hossain of village Mohipur in Gangachara upazila of Rangpur.
