MANIKGANJ, Nov 12, 2025 (BSS) - The harvesting of Aman paddy is going on in full swing in all the seven upazilas of the district with an expectation of a bumper yield during the current season, according to the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE).
DAE sources said a target was set to produce 50,283 metric tons of clean rice from 13,200 hectares of land in the district's seven upazilas. However, Aman was cultivated on 13,208 hectares of land this season, exceeding the target.
Most cultivators in the district grow three crops on the same land in rotation. At the beginning of the season, they cultivate mustard, followed by Boro paddy as the main crop, and at the end they cultivate Aman paddy on the same land, the sources added.
Md. Ashraf Uddin, 45, a middle-class farmer of Fukurhati village under Saturia upazila, said, "A few years ago, we cultivated local varieties of Aman after harvesting Boro, but we did not get the expected yield."
"Now the cultivation of transplanted Aman has gained popularity as it ensures better production," he added.
Deputy Director of DAE Shahjahan Siraj said farmers across the district are showing increasing interest in large-scale cultivation of Aman paddy due to favorable weather and improved farming methods.
