Farmers passing busy times with transplanting T-Aman seedlings in Netrakona

NETRAKONA, September 4, 2023 (BSS) - Farmers are now passing busy times with transplanting of Transplanted Aman (T-Aman) paddy seedlings on their farm lands in the district which is popularly known as ‘paddy rich’ area of the country.  

The cultivators are rendering their field-level service on the farm lands with a view to meet their food demand as well as to ensure food security of the country.

Meanwhile, the transplantation of T-Aman rice seedlings is nearing to completion following favorable climate in the district this season.

The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources said, the Aman cultivators have already completed transplantation of T-Aman seedlings on 1,21,990 hectares of land, which is 92 percent of the total targeted land area for cultivation of the crop.

The DAE has designed a target of producing 3,90,522 metric tonnes of clean T-Aman rice through cultivating the T-Aman crop on 1,32,580  hectares of land this season in all the ten upazilas of the district.

According to the total production target , 36,000 tonnes of hybrid variety T-Aman rice will be produced from 9000 hectares of land, 3,33,600  tonnes of high yielding variety (HYV) rice from 1,11,200 hectares of land and 20,922 tonnes of local variety Aman rice from 12,380 hectares of land.  

Talking to this BSS correspondent, Deputy Director of the DAE Netrakona, Mohammad Nuruzzaman said at the directives of the government, different state-run agencies including BADC and BCIC has ensured proper supply of adequate quantity of improved quality Aman seeds, fertilizers and different irrigation and agricultural equipments among the Aman growers.

The state-run banks including Bangladesh Krishi Bank have also distributed crop loans to the farmers for helping them run their Aman cultivation network without facing financial problems.

Apart from these, the government has already distributed 42.4 tonnes of improved quality Aman seeds, 80 tonnes of DAP fertilizers and 80 tonnes of MOP fertilizers as incentives among the 9200 small and marginal farmers under its agriculture incentive program, the DD added.
