Bumper Aush yield expected in Barguna

BARGUNA, Aug 18, 2021 (BSS) – Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) officials and farmers of the district in six upazilas here are expecting bumper Aush paddy production this season as 46,573 hectares of land were brought under its cultivation this year against the target of 36,000 hectares of land.
 
According to the DAE, about 11,573 hectares more land has come under Aush cultivation than the target of the district this year. Because last year farmers got good production of Aush paddy.
 
Senior Agriculture Officer Rezaul Karim said farmers have cultivated BR-48 and BRRI 27 varieties of Aush paddy in the district.
 
Aiming to increase the production of Aush paddy, the government disbursed agro-incentive to small and marginal farmers in the district under its “Agriculture Incentive Distribution Programme”.
 
Under the programme, each of the farmer received five kilograms of Aush seeds, 20 kilograms of Di-ammonium phosphate and 10 kilograms of Muriate of potash free of cost for the cultivation of one Bigha of land.
 
Badrul Hossain, assistant deputy director of the Barguna Agriculture Extension Department  said the farmers are expecting bumper production of Aush as the favourable weather was prevailing all over the season.
 
He added that the harvesting of Aush paddy has already started.
