RANGPUR, May 17, 2021 (BSS) – Awami League (AL) and its associate bodies celebrated the 41st homecoming Day of AL President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina here today recalling her returning home on May 17 in 1981 from exile.
The district and city units of AL arranged limited scale programmes marking the day strictly abiding by the health directives in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic in the city.
The programmes included placing wreaths at the portrait of Father the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the party office followed by brief discussions and milad mehfils at mosques in the city.
The district AL arranged the main milad mahfil at Keramotia Jam-e-Mosque here with participation of a limited number of leaders and workers of district and city AL and its associate bodies this afternoon.
President of district AL Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, its General Secretary Advocate Rezaul Karim Razu, Joint General Secretary Motahar Hossain Mandal Mowla, Organising Secretary Abu Talha Biplob, Office Secretary Amin Sarker, other leaders of AL and its associate bodies were present.
Earlier, in a brief discussion arranged at district AL office, leaders of the party said the return of Sheikh Hasina to the country paved the way for reestablishing democracy and spirit of the War of Liberation.
Advocate Rezaul Karim Raju discussed the sacrifices of Sheikh Hasina and urged the party leaders to work unitedly for speeding up development to ensure welfare of the common people for making the hard-earned independence meaningful.
“Return of Sheikh Hasina factually removed the darkness from the country after assassinations of Bangabandhu and most of his family members on August 15, 1975,” he said.
Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed said AL always conducts the politics for development and welfare of common people and urged the leaders and activists of AL and its associate bodies for securing the hard-earned independence.
He suggested the party leaders and workers to materialise the visions as envisioned by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina through building a middle income nation by 2021 and developed country by 2041 to realise Bangabandhu’s dream.
He especially stressed on further strengthening the hands of Sheikh Hasina for building a peaceful and developed ‘Sonar Bangla’ free from hunger, poverty, exploitation and injustice as dreamt by Bangabandhu.
