World Thalassemia Day tomorrow

DHAKA, May 7, 2021 (BSS) – The World Thalassemia Day will be observed tomorrow in the country as elsewhere in the globe to raise awareness about the disease.

This year’s theme of the day is “Addressing Health Inequalities Across the Global Thalassaemia Community”.

The World Thalassemia Day is celebrated every year on May 8 aiming to raise awareness about this disease among the people throughout the world.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today issued a message on the occasion.

She said the Awami League government is working to reach the healthcare services at the doorsteps of common people.

About 18,000 community clinics and union healthcare centres were established in the country to ensure health services of rural people, she
added.

To create awareness among people in the Mujib Year, the premier said, the
Directorate General of Health Services and Bangladesh Thalassemia Foundation
are implementing various programnes, including awareness campaign and online
registration of thalassemia patients in educational institutions and public
agencies in all the districts.

Sheikh Hasina said the government is providing Taka 50,000 as assistance
to every thalassemia patient alongside the cancer, kidney and liver cirrhosis patients for their treatment.
