PBI submits charge sheet on Raihan’s death

SYLHET, May 5, 2021 (BSS) – Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) today submitted charge sheet over the death of Raihan Ahmed at Bandarbazar police outpost in the district.

Special Police Superintendent of PBI Khaled-uz-Zaman said this at a press conference this noon.

He said five police men including Sub Inspector Akbar Hossain Bhuiyan were named in the charge sheet.

The accused are Sub Inspector Akbar Hossain Bhuiyan, Assistant Sub Inspector Ashek Elahi, police constable Harun or Rashid, Titu Chandra Das, Sub Inspector Md Hasan Uddin and one Abdullah Al Noman.

On October 11, 2020 Raihan Ahmed, a resident at Akharia in Sylhet city, was alledgely beaten to death in police custody at the police outpost, . His wife Tahmina Akhter Tanni filed a case with Kotwali police station accusing a number of unidentified people following day.

Later police authorities suspended four police personnel including Sub Inspector Akbar in connection with the death. Three police men were also withdrawn from the outpost.

All the five police men are now in custody.

The charge sheet was submitted to the prosecution section of the court at around 11 am.
