Work of Ghaghot lake in Gaibandha development project begins

GAIBANDHA, March 5, 2021 (BSS) – The work of Ghaghot lake development
project began yesterday through construction of a connecting Road from AC
Land office to Shashan ghat of the district town.

On Thursday, local lawmaker and whip of the Jatiya Sangshad Mahabub Ara
Begum Gini formally inaugurated the work through unveiling a plaque as the
chief guest.

Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) is implementing the work
under ‘Ghagot Lake Development Project’ in Gaibandha Municipality at a cost
of Taka 57 lakh.

Speaking on the occasion, the JS whip said the government has taken an
initiative to turn the dead Ghagot river into a modern lake through
implementing beautification and development works of the district town.

To execute the project works smoothly, district administration had evicted
illegal infrastructures constructed on both sides of the river on Saturday,
she said.

She also urged the officials and employees, including the contractors of
the project to ensure timely completion of the project work.

Executive engineer of LGED Ahsan Kabir told BSS that the beautification
work of the Ghaghot lake would be done under the project at a cost of Taka 32
crore.

As per design of the project, huge up-lift works including re-excavation
of 3 km of the river, building protection of 5.27 km bank of the river and 6
km footpath on its both sides and two bridges will be built, he added.

Besides, four ghats and eight benches for the visitors will be constructed
under the project.
