GAIBANDHA, Mar 01, 2021(BSS)-Police Memorial Day-2021 was observed in the
district as elsewhere in the country today with a call to honour the police
members who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
Marking the day, the district police chalked out the elaborate programmes
to show due respect and honour to their departed colleagues.
In the morning around 11 AM, the police officials led by superintendent of
police (SP) Muhammad Towhidul Islam placed floral wreaths on the temporary
monument set up on the ground of police liens here.
A grand rally was brought out from the police lines and ended at the same
venue after parading the main roads of the town. SP Muhammad Towhidul Islam
led the rally.
The programme was followed by a discussion meeting organized by district
police at the drill shed of the police lines of the town at noon.
SP Muhammad Towhidul Islam addressed the meeting as the chief guest and
general secretary of Bangladesh Awami League, district unit, Abu Bakar
Siddique and mayor of Gaibandha Municipality Md Motlubour Rahman and
executive chief of Gana Unnayan Kendra were present as special guests.
The speakers in their speeches said the people are ever grateful to the
policemen who sacrificed their lives while discharging their duties to
maintain the law and order and their sacrifice have made the police force
proud.
The government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave the approval to
observe the Police Memorial Day since 2017 for the police officials and the
members who lost their lives on duty, they added.
SP Muhammad termed the police as the strength of independence, and said
over a thousand police officers from all ranks gave their lives for an
independent Bangladesh during the 1971.
The district police chief also assured the family members of the policemen
killed on-duty of giving all sorts of assistances in the days to come.
Family members and relatives of 30 martyred policemen were accorded
reception and honoured on the occasion.
Al the officers in charge coming from seven thanas of the district,
invited persons and journalists attended the programmes.
